Do It Anyway

You ever have one of those days where nothing works right and you just keep hitting walls? Sure most of us have. An off day here or there is a standard symptom of the human condition.

Now, have you ever had one of those years?

(*Cue FRIENDS-style frantic clapping.*)

All jokes aside, sometimes life hits you with an unbeatable jump-puzzle that forces you to your knees. Over. And over. And over.

A player-character runs across an open highway to get hit by an oncoming car, followed by a WASTED screen.

If only we could turn the camera in real life…

But, that's not the important part. The important part is what you do next. Even when you've taken that turnstile to the gut for the umpteenth time and you fear the next bruising, as viral creator Yoshi2.0 puts it, sometimes you've just got to Do It Anyway.

Don't stress — there's no pep-talk inbound. More like a mini-manifesto. There is enough insanity on display in this 24/7 doom-scroll gallery of a world for one to easily forget that the most powerful tool we have is our own mind. Our own voice. And we do ourselves a disservice by willfully censoring our inner creators by succumbing to fear and ego. The ego that says if we create that one weird thing, it will haunt us forever and ever and ever...

An adult Rebecca Black eats cereal from a bowl marked, "GOTTA HAVE MY BOWL."

Truly, to be cringe is to be free.

That said, this is just the beginning of a long journey. An exhibition of the dirt-under-the-nails details of what it looks like to create fearlessly. I can't say that I am a native to this brave, new land — but I am a hopeful migrant. And we (the royal we?) have a long way to go before we surrender to the tyranny of our own insecurities.

So, let's get out there and create something.

Something messy. Something risqué. Something revolutionary. Something half-baked.

Just. Make. Something.

And when facing the blinding doubt of the blank page...

Do it anyway.
